Training wheels are off already - we'll see how he does. He logged 3.5 miles on the Iron Horse Trail 3 days ago. Complained of his quads being tired at mile 3 though :-)

Oh, btw, I did post a comment re: the five-ten shoes you were interested in. Basically, I referred you to Kevin since he has shoes similar to the ones you are looking at.

Hey Stone,
Yes, that would be great if we could ride HITG this year. Have you ridden Dirty Harry before? I just heard about it mentioned by Kevin and now, you. Would love to explore more trails in Tahoe.

Cool that Moe has been your mainstay in Dville...they really do become part of the family. With Lucky, my 10-year old Lab getting older, my husband and son want to get another big dog, a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Eeek...I hope I'm ready for another puppy in the house.

I rode with the BTCEB group this past Saturday at Joaquin Miller Park. It was a lot of fun and I just love the big Redwood treees. You feel so far away in a beautiful forest, yet it's only about a 30 min. drive. It's a small park, so you can do a bunch of loops there. It's nice learning a new park and having a guide. The BTCEB group puts on a "Gala Ride" the second Sat. of every month; you should join if you are interested. Where did you ride this weekend?

OK, I'll keep that in mind re: posting pics. I do need a new camera and I'm not that computer savvy, so we'll see, but you have inspired me to take photos of my rides. They BTCEB group did post some photos of our ride that anyone can look at.

Happy trails,
Sheila

Hey Sheila - thanks for the comments! We'll have to get a Hole in the Ground ride in later this summer/fall when the snow finally melts! I really want to get up to Tahoe this year.

So yeah, I had those ties in my pack luckily. Dan's steroid shot worked wonders - his right eye was nearly swollen shut when he arrived in Downieville Friday afternoon. Again - just a huge rally - but that's Dan! The ice cold river may have helped reduce swelling also.

Moe will be 12 in January. I first brought him up to Dville over 10 years ago, so he's made the trip more than anyone I know. He loves jumping in the river still to this day, and has even joined me inside the bar in town.

CK - I did tighten up the rear shock after the SS conversion. The chain did jump around a little, but I didn't do any serious climbing on it as to not put any pressure. The only time I pedaled was on the flats or going back into town. I'll double check my frame for sure though - hoping it's still 100%. If it's not......well then I may just have to get that carbon Nomad!

So yeah - no Packer Saddle -> IV this trip. Our shuttle guy, Jah Mon, didn't come up so we had no ride back. Not interested in riding 14 miles up Hwy 49 back into town. That would have sucked...

Sheila, welcome to the blog!

Stoner, nice save. Next time it's a good idea to have a cutter with you so you can remove the faulty rear mech completely rather than attaching it to the frame.

As for the SS ... I broke a frame at Downieville once doing that very thing. It wasn't apparent to me until later when I started having shifting problems and the rear triangle was 7mm out of alignment. You were lucky that the chain didn't try to hop up a cog ... you'd be in the same boat I'm sure. There's a tremendous amont of force that's put on a frame when you're running SS, there's no chain slack and the chain decides to jump a cog ...

Another thing you should do under those circumstances is to put more air in your shock to effectively lock out the rear end. This eliminates chain growth entirely and is safer for your frame. No harm no foul this time it sounds like however.

Looked like good times. What happened to Packer->IV btw?

Hopefully I can work out a trip up there this fall, we'll see.
